What our investment advice covers

Portfolio reviews

We look at everything you hold, what you pay in total and how much risk you are really taking. The first finding is often money in the wrong wrapper, or paying more than it needs to.

Investing a lump sum

An inheritance, a property sale or a redundancy payment. We work out how much to keep accessible, how much to invest, which wrappers to use and whether to invest it all at once or in stages.

ISAs and investment accounts

Making full use of your £20,000 ISA allowance each year, moving existing holdings into ISAs over time, and keeping taxable gains and dividends as low as the rules allow.

Pension investments

How your personal pension or SIPP is invested, and whether that still suits the date you plan to retire. Pensions are often the largest investment people own and the least reviewed.

Income from your investments

Taking a regular income in the most tax efficient order across ISAs, pensions and other accounts, and at a rate your portfolio can sustain for as long as you need it.

Ongoing management

An optional ongoing service from 0.3% a year, covering annual reviews, rebalancing and changes as your life does. You can cancel at any time, with no exit fees.

Who we typically help

People with pensions, ISAs and savings spread across several providers and never reviewed together
Anyone who has received, or is about to receive, a significant lump sum

Business owners building wealth outside their company

People approaching retirement who need their investments to move from growth towards income

How our investment advice works

1. Free first consultation

We talk through what you have, what you want the money to do and whether we can add value. No charge and no obligation.

2. Understanding your position

We gather the detail of your existing investments and agree the level of risk you are comfortable with and can afford.

3. Written recommendation

You receive a clear report setting out what we recommend and why, including the costs, before anything happens.

4. Putting it in place

We handle the paperwork and transfers, then review with you as often as you choose.

Why independent advice matters for your investments

Every regulated adviser in the UK is either independent or restricted. A restricted adviser can only recommend from a limited range, sometimes one provider’s own funds. An independent adviser must consider the whole of the market and recommend what suits you, whoever provides it.

That matters most when the right answer is inconvenient, such as a product from a company we have no ties to, or leaving your money exactly where it is. On investments and pensions we are fee based, so what we are paid never depends on the product you end up holding.

Investment advice FAQs

How much do I need to invest to get advice?
It depends on what you want to achieve rather than on a single number. The free first consultation is there to work out whether we can add value in your circumstances, and we will say plainly if we cannot.
What is the difference between an independent and a restricted adviser?
An independent adviser must consider the whole of the market. A restricted adviser can only recommend from a limited range, sometimes one provider’s products. First Equitable is independent.
Should I use my ISA or my pension first?
It depends on your tax position and when you need the money. A pension gives tax relief now but is locked until at least 55, rising to 57 in 2028. An ISA gives no relief but you can access it at any time.
Do you hold my money?
No. First Equitable never handles client money. Your investments are held with the provider or platform, in your own name.
Can I stop the ongoing service later?
Yes. Ongoing service is optional, starts from 0.3% a year and can be cancelled at any time. There is no minimum contract and there are no exit fees.
